Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday's (April 29) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 at 7pm.
Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) was left in tears in Hollyoaks after she was unable to get out of the bath, requiring assistance from Tony (Nick Pickard) and sons Ant (Brook Debio) and Ro (Leo Cole). The landlady of The Dog, as viewers know, was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer earlier this year, confirming to husband Tony at the time that she had just six months left. Tony sought a second opinion for his beloved wife at a top clinic in Harley Street but sadly the doctors there confirmed Diane's diagnosis as terminal. Determined to be there for her kids, Diane initially contemplated chemotherapy but given the impact it was having on her quality of life she resolved to stop treatment and make the most of every second. Fearing how Tony will cope when she's gone, Diane resolved to set him up with Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter), believing her to be the perfect candidate to help raise her children.
Nancy Osborne (Jessica Fox) urged her to stop spending so much time setting up her one true love and instead enjoy the time she's got left with him and the kids. In emotional scenes, Diane confirmed that she'd had news from the doctors, revealing that she has just weeks left now instead of months – and she doesn't know how to tell her loved ones. With the house to herself, Di subsequently had a bath but she was devastated when she was unable to get out, believing that her body has started to give up on her. Tony arrived and was heartbroken to see his soulmate in so much pain and, reiterating that wants to be by her side until the very end, he attempted to lift her out, with Ant and Ro soon coming to help their dad in raising Diane out of the bath and bringing her back to the living room. The ordeal left Diane in tears, due to the fact that her kids are now looking after her as she believes it should be the other way around. Leela, however, reminded her that one's loved ones will always be there for them in one's time of need.
Ant, meanwhile, broke down in the arms of Kathleen-Angel McQueen (Naledi Rapotu). Ro and Dee Dee (Chloe Atkinson) discussed their mum's prognosis and how long they had with her, which Diane overheard. Determined to reassure them, she claimed to have ages left yet. In subsequent scenes, Diane started to cough, once again reassuring her children that everything was fine, but her expression changed when she realised that there was blood in the tissue that she'd held to her mouth previously. Will Diane tell her family about her recent news?
