DoorDash Grandma Delivers McDonald's to Trump, Fights Tax on Tips

DoorDash Grandma Makes Personal McDonald's Delivery to President Trump

In a remarkable encounter at the White House, Sharon Simmons—known as the "DoorDash Grandma"—personally delivered a bag of McDonald's fast food to President Donald Trump outside the Oval Office. The delivery coincided with the one-year anniversary of Trump's initiative to ban taxes on tips, a cause Simmons has passionately advocated for in Congress.

Who Is Sharon Simmons?

Sharon Simmons is a grandmother of ten from Arkansas who turned to DoorDash during the COVID-19 pandemic to support her family. Her situation became even more challenging in 2025 when she increased her deliveries to help pay for her husband's cancer treatments. Simmons shared her story with Congress to support Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill," which aims to eliminate taxes on tips for gig economy workers.

"Because DoorDash provides me with a truly flexible work schedule, I was able to drive him to and from his treatments," Simmons testified. "During that time, every extra dollar I earned mattered more than ever. When I found out about the No Tax on Tips, I was like, this is incredible because it's going to help certainly with future doctor's appointments and future things that we have going on."

She emphasized that DoorDash not only helps put food on the table but also supports her husband's medical needs and maintains her connections with her community and ten grandchildren in Missouri.

Trump's Fast Food Favorites and the Delivery

President Trump is famously fond of McDonald's, with his typical order reportedly including two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and a large chocolate milkshake, often accompanied by a Diet Coke. Simmons' delivery marked a symbolic moment, celebrating the anniversary of the "No Tax on Tips" initiative that has reportedly provided her significant financial relief.

During the event, Trump defended a controversial social media post where he appeared as Jesus Christ and asked Simmons for her opinion on transgender women in sports, which she politely declined to answer. Despite the attention, Simmons remained focused on her advocacy work.

Ongoing Struggles and Community Support

Even after receiving a generous tip from the President, Simmons and her family continue to face financial hardships as the cost of living rises in the United States. Her stepson, Kyrie, has set up a GoFundMe campaign to seek donations, highlighting the "tough challenges" they endure due to her husband's cancer treatments.

"My dad is currently undergoing cancer treatments, and the financial strain has been overwhelming for both of them," Kyrie wrote. "Despite everything, Sharon continues to work hard and advocate for others, never letting her own struggles get in the way of helping those around her."

Simmons' story underscores the broader issues faced by gig workers and the impact of policy changes on everyday Americans, making her a notable figure in both political and social discussions.
