Prominent British rapper Ghetts, whose legal name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for causing the death of a student in a catastrophic hit-and-run incident. Prosecutor Philip McGhee detailed that on the evening of October 18, 2025, Clarke-Samuel had consumed alcohol at Omi Lounge in central London before driving. Forensic analysis indicated his blood alcohol concentration was approximately one-and-a-half times the legal threshold. His vehicle was recorded traveling at speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour prior to the fatal impact.
Reckless Driving Pattern and Aftermath
Court evidence revealed a disturbing pattern of dangerous driving behavior. The defendant disregarded six red traffic signals, repeatedly crossed into opposing lanes, mounted curbs, and collided with both a motorcyclist and a Mercedes vehicle, causing significant property damage.
The fatal incident occurred when Clarke-Samuel, traveling at 67 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour zone, struck Tamang as the student crossed Redbridge Lane in Ilford at 11:33 PM. Following the collision, the rapper failed to stop, neglected to contact emergency services, and drove approximately eight miles to his residence. Tamang succumbed to his injuries two days later in hospital care.

Law enforcement officers visited Clarke-Samuel's home in the early morning hours following the incident, where they detected alcohol on his breath before placing him under arrest. Investigators documented substantial damage to his black BMW vehicle.
