Major Police Operation Targets Criminal Networks in Liverpool's Anfield
Merseyside Police has launched a significant anti-crime initiative, effectively "locking down" the Anfield area of Liverpool as part of Operation Vanguard. The large-scale operation, which began early on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, involves approximately 300 officers and staff executing 14 search warrants during coordinated early morning raids.
Operation Vanguard's Comprehensive Strategy
This relentless offensive targets a wide range of criminal activities, including serious organized crime, domestic abuse, modern-day slavery, burglary, robbery, fraud, and drug offences. The operation employs multiple tactical approaches to disrupt criminal networks operating in the community.
The comprehensive strategy includes:
- Extensive searches conducted on land and underwater
- Vehicle stops targeting cars linked to known criminals
- Specialist operations focusing on county lines drug dealing
- Deployment of mounted police units and dog teams
- Increased foot patrols throughout the Anfield area
Police Leadership Issues Strong Warning
Chief Constable Rob Carden delivered a stern message to criminals operating in the region: "If you are involved in criminality you can expect a knock on your door. Our message to criminals is clear - we don't want them in our communities and we will be relentless in our pursuit of them."
While police have not yet released specific details regarding arrests or search results from Wednesday's operation, authorities emphasize that the "lock down" approach creates an environment where offenders can be effectively targeted and removed from the community.
Building on Previous Successes
This operation follows a similar successful initiative conducted in December that targeted the Stockbridge Village and Huyton areas east of Liverpool city centre. That previous operation resulted in 49 arrests, demonstrating the police force's ongoing commitment to tackling organized crime throughout the region.
Liverpool City Council leader Liam Robinson expressed strong support for the police action, stating: "Today's activity demonstrates that there is no hiding place. The safety and wellbeing of our communities will always come first."
Parallel Initiatives Showing Results
Merseyside Police highlighted the success of another related program, the EVOLVE Everton-Vauxhall scheme, which has been operating in north Liverpool since January of the previous year. This Home Office-backed initiative has delivered impressive results, including:
- More than 115 arrests
- Seizure of over 30 weapons
- Confiscation of more than 100kg of drugs
- Recovery of nearly £150,000 in cash
The police force emphasizes that these coordinated operations represent an ongoing, multi-faceted approach to making Liverpool communities safer by directly confronting criminal elements that threaten neighborhood security and resident wellbeing.
